Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
| Educational Criteria | Degree in Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) in Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunication from a recognized University or equivalent qualification recognized by Central Government. Final year appearing candidates eligible. |
| Age Limit (as on 01/01/2026) | 21 to 30 years (Born between 02/01/1996 and 01/01/2005). Standard age relaxation applies for SC/ST (5 yrs), OBC (3 yrs), and Ex-Servicemen. |
Pay Scale & Allowances
IES Officers are inducted at Level 10 of the 7th CPC with starting basic pay of Rs. 56,100/- plus Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, official vehicle, and government bungalow entitlements. Total monthly gross starting salary exceeds Rs. 1,05,000/- in metro postings.
Selection Process & Examination Pattern
- Stage-I: ESE Preliminary Exam: Objective papers (500 marks): Paper-I General Studies and Engineering Aptitude (200 marks, 2 hrs) + Paper-II Discipline Engineering (300 marks, 3 hrs).
- Stage-II: ESE Main Examination: Conventional technical papers (600 marks): Two papers of 300 marks each (3 hours each) in respective engineering discipline.
- Stage-III: Personality Test (Interview): UPSC Board interview carrying 200 marks assessing leadership, technical judgment, and administrative aptitude.
How to Apply Online
- Visit UPSC One Time Registration portal at
upsconline.nic.in. - Complete OTR registration or log in with existing registration.
- Select ‘Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026’.
- Complete Part-I registration and select your engineering discipline.
- Pay examination fee of Rs. 200/- (Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates are exempt).
- Complete Part-II: Upload photo, signature, and government photo ID card.
- Select exam centre and submit application.
